The Netscape Messenger mail and news access program is
integrated in with the Netscape Communicator web
browser. It features IMAP mail access, easy mail attachment
handling, HTML-based messaging, and completely integrated
address book/directory service lookup.
Installation
Visit the Netscape
Browser site to download the latest version for your
computer. Launch the Setup or Install program to
install the package and then return here to begin
configuration.
Getting Started
To begin setting up
Netscape Messenger for use with your U-Mail account you'll need
to bring up the main Messenger window and by selecting Mail
& Newsgroups from the Window menu. The Account
Wizard should start up to assist you in setting up your account.
If you don't see the Account Wizard window you can start it
manually by selecting Mail & Newsgroups Account
Settings from the Edit menu and clicking the Add
Account... button.
When the Account Wizard opens, select Email
account as the type of account you would like to
setup.
After you've done this click Next.
Identity
You'll first be prompted to enter your name and e-mail address.

Once you've done this you can again click Next.
Server Information
On this screen you need to specify e-mail server information
as follows:

Note:
The information we provide here works for most internet service
providers. A few, however, require that you use their server
for outgoing mail (SMTP). If you're unable to send outgoing mail
you'll need to contact your service provider to get the name of
an approved outgoing mail server.
Click Next when you're done here.
User Name
On this screen you'll need to supply your UCSBnetID.
After you've done this click Next.
Account Name
Here you'll need to provide a name for this account.
Once you've filled these in click Next and then
Finish. You're now done with the settings wizard
but there's still more to do.
Connect to your Account
Now you'll need to connect to your account. Click the
Get Messages button in the button bar to connect to your
account. Enter your password when asked, and optionally check
the Use Password Manager to remember this password
checkbox.
You can now continue to configure Netscape Messenger by
by selecting Mail & Newsgroups Account
Settings from the Edit menu and clicking on
the account named U-Mail.
Server Settings
Select the Server Settings section and modify the
settings as follows:

Click OK when you're done here.
Copies and Folders
Next you'll need to select the Copies and Folders
section of the configuration. On this screen you'll need
to specify where you want Netscape Messenger to store
messages.
On each of these settings you'll need to
navigate through your mail folder
hierarchy to select the appropriate location. For instance,
to set your sent-mail folder you'll need to navigate the
folder hierarchy from U-Mail ->
Inbox -> sent-mail. The other folder settings
are set in the same way.

Finishing Up
Click OK to save these settings.
Netscape Messenger is now ready for use with your account.
