Installation

Outlook is installed as part of the Microsoft Office suite. Consult your Office documentation for installation instructions.

Starting the Account Setup Wizard

When you start Outlook for the first time the account setup wizard will start. Click Next to being configuring Outlook for use with U-Mail.

E-Mail Accounts

You'll first be asked if you want to set up an E-Mail account. Trust us, you do. So go ahead a click Yes.

After you've done this click Next.

Server Type

On this screen you'll want to specify IMAP as the e-mail server type.

Once you've selected this you can again click Next.

Internet E-Mail Settings (IMAP)

At this point you need to specify e-mail server information as follows:

Your Name:	[your name]
E-mail Address	UCSBnetID@umail.ucsb.edu
Incoming mail server (IMAP):	incoming.umail.ucsb.edu
Outgoing mail server (SMTP):	outgoing.umail.ucsb.edu
User Name:	UCSBnetID
Password:	[your password]
Log on using Secure Password Authentication (SPA):	[not checked]
Note: The information we provide here works for most internet service providers. A few, however, require that you use their server for outgoing mail (SMTP). If you're unable to send outgoing mail you'll need to contact your service provider to get the name of an approved outgoing mail server.

You're not quite done here; click on the More Settings... to continue.

More Settings - General

On the "General" tab, set the account name to U-Mail. The other fields here can be left blank.

Mail Account:	U-Mail
Organization:	[leave blank]
Reply E-mail	[leave blank]

Once you've filled these in click the Outgoing Server tab.

More Settings - Outgoing Server

On this tab match the settings as per the image below:

My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication	[checked]
Use same settings as my incoming mail server:	[checked]

After this is complete click over to the Advanced tab.

More Settings - Advanced

Just a few more settings you'll need to specify:

Incoming server (IMAP):	993
This server requires an encrypted connection (SSL)	[checked]
Outgoing server (SMTP):	465
This server requires an encrypted connection (SSL)	[checked]
Root folder path:	inbox.

Now you can click OK here and then Next in the main settings window.

Finishing Up

At this point you're all done. Click Finish to launch Outlook and begin using it with yout U-Mail account.
